It is a question the LGBT community has to ask itself in the middle of one of the most chaotic elections in American history. It arises because of an interview Secretary Clinton gave while attending the funeral of former First Lady Nancy Reagan where she brought up the AIDS crisis that emerged during Ronald Reagan’s presidency.
“Because of both President and Mrs. Reagan, in particular Mrs. Reagan, we started a national conversation when before nobody would talk about it, nobody wanted to do anything about it,” Clinton said. To any gay person who lived through the AIDS crisis, it was a statement both shocking and hurtful.
